From Homebrewing to One of Fort Collins’ Favorite Breweries
Maxline Brewing began with a passion for homebrewing and a dream of creating a gathering place for the Fort Collins community. After decades of brewing beer as a hobby, owners Kevin Gearhardt and Cathy Morgan turned their passion into a family-owned brewery focused on quality craft beer, community connection, and creating memorable experiences for guests. Today, Maxline Brewing has become a destination for craft beer lovers looking for a Fort Collins brewery with great beer, food truck dining, live entertainment, and a welcoming atmosphere.
Kevin started homebrewing in the late 1980s, making a few good beers but probably more that were not so good at first. After taking a year or two off from brewing he started back up in 1992 with a few friends from work, and even started a mail order homebrew supply business call Big Butt Brewing. OK so it was less a “business” than it was a way to get supplies at wholesale, but that was long ago. For the next 10 years the “Big Butt Brewing” crew brewed 2 or 3 times per month in Kevin’s garage, and other than an occasional experiment gone wrong they produced some very nice ales that they shared with friends at an occasional big party. Then in 2002 Kevin stopped brewing and just favored the multiple Fort Collins breweries and beer establishments for his craft beer enjoyment.
In 2012 after 9 years of marriage to Cathy, Kevin saw a post on Facebook from an old college friend who’d built a really cool all-electric homebrewing setup. Upon telling Cathy he was going to get back into homebrewing she said “Why don’t we open a brewery?”. And the rest as they say is history!

Our brewers create a diverse lineup of beers ranging from award-winning Irish Reds and West Coast IPAs to hazy IPAs, stouts, sours, and seasonal releases. We also carry gluten free and non-alcoholic options, so that everyone can have a good time!
A Brewery with Food
While we focus on brewing exceptional beer, we also host local food trucks throughout the week so guests can enjoy fresh meals alongside their favorite pint. From burgers and barbecue to sushi and international cuisine, there’s always something new to pair with your beer.
